Include your iPhone and watchOS versions and we'll get back to you.
No, but it is strongly recommended. With a Watch you get continuous heart rate, heart rate zones and the most accurate step and movement tracking. Without one, your iPhone still tracks duration, steps, distance and your route.
Make sure you granted the Motion & Fitness permission, and Health permissions if you are using a Watch. You can check under Settings › Privacy & Security › Motion & Fitness, and in the Health app under Sharing › Apps. Keep the Watch on your wrist for the whole op — steps are collected from the wrist.
Yes. Mark the site as indoor when you create it and the app maps your movement using motion and heading rather than GPS, which does not work reliably inside buildings. Your route will be positioned relative to the site rather than by satellite.
The map needs a network connection to load satellite tiles. Sites with no signal will show a plain map until you are back in coverage, but your route is always recorded regardless — it is stored with the op and will draw once tiles load.
Ops are saved to Apple Health as running workouts. Strava does not import third-party workouts from Apple Health directly, so you will need a bridge app such as RunGap or HealthFit to move them across.
Deleting the app removes everything stored on your device. Workouts already written to Apple Health are managed separately and can be deleted in the Health app.
